'Argentina has dollars to spare,' Marcó del Pont says
When questioned about the current exchange market in the country, Central Bank Governor Mercedes Marcó del Pont assured that “there are dollars to spare in Argentina."
“Argentina’s solvency is strong enough to face a management change,” Marcó del Pont stated.
“We will keep the current policy of managing the exchange market. The Central Bank has enough resources to achieve that goal. This time circumstances largely differ from other quite tragic moments in Argentine history,” she added,
When questioned about the high dollar demand, Marcó del Pont said “Argentina’s history should be analyzed in a way in which, when it is time to save money, particularly in an electoral year, Argentines choose to save dollars. That’s a specific matter and it doesn’t coincide with the current situation of Argentina’s economy and its exchange market,”.
“The world economic crisis experience has shown that developing countries are the ones that have grown the most,” she concluded.
