Leonas to play Champions Trophy final after appeal

The Argentine female hockey team, Las Leonas, former world champions and three time Champions Trophy winners, will play the hockey final against Netherlands, after the Appeals Committee of the International Federation (FIH) decided to accept the claim presented by the Argentine Hockey Confederation (CAH).

“At issue were the final standings in Pool C at the Champions Trophy based on wording in the FIH Tournament Regulations. Under appeal it was determined that Argentina should be ranked second in Pool C and Korea should be ranked third.

The change in ranking means that the gold medal game will feature Netherlands against Argentina, while the bronze medal game will feature Korea against New Zealand,” said the FIH in a statement.

Firstly, due to the interpretation of the Cup's authorities over the rules, the final was going to be played by Netherlands and South Korea. Bt the FIH accepted the claim of the Argentines and confirmed that Las Leonas were going to be at the final.

"The committee allowed each of the parts to give their opinion and finally determined we were right. We will face Netherlands tomorrow," the head of the CAH, Daniel Marcellini stated.

Las Leonas had defeated New Zealand 3-2, but were not go through to the hockey final.
