Snow falls over Bariloche, population hopes to save ski season
After going through a terrible ordeal in the last couple of weeks due to the Puyehue volcanic eruption, residents in the tourist town of Bariloche, in Patagonia, remained cautiously optimistic as they welcomed the first snow of the season this morning.
According to the National Weather Forecast Service, weather conditions could remain the same for the next couple of days, for which they trust they will be able to lure tourists looking for snow to the area.
Starting at 9 am this morning, heavy snow began falling over the city, bringing joy among the population who remained concerned about the volcanic ash that had blanketed the city, forcing local authorities to consider the town an “economic and social disaster zone.”
Over five centimetres of snow fell on the base of the Cerro Catedral peak, and more snow is expected in the next couple of days, which will allow for the ski resort to open its Doors to visitors.
