Champions Trophy: Las Leonas beat England 1-0

Las Leonas hockey team celebrate their 1-0 victory over England in the Netherlands.

The famous world champion Argentine female hockey team Las Leonas, beat England 1-0 in Group A’s debut of this year’s Champions Trophy, that takes place in Amsterdam.

Fifty-two minutes into the game, Luciana Aymar scored the triumphing goal for Las Leonas that won them the match that takes places at the Wagener Stadium, 10 kilometres south of Amsterdam.

Team captain, Luciana Aymar commented on their win saying, “I feel very satisfied with our performance, and overall with the attitude of the team. It was a tough match, but Argentina always plays with a lot of love and spirit. There were moments where we carried great control over the ball,” she said after the match.

This Sunday, the team is to face China, and if they win, they will qualify for the second round, where a new group will be formed with the two front runners from each area.
