Proyecto Sur breaks off with Progressive Front

Proyecto Sur leader Fernando "Pino" Solanas.

After weeks of tension, the Proyecto Sur party finally decided to distance itself from the Progressive Front that it had created along with the Socialist Party and the GEN in order to face the July mayoral elections in the City, and the presidential elections in October.

Sources in the Proyecto Sur told Ambito.com that the party led by mayoral candidate Fernando “Pino” Solanas will nominate lawmaker Alcira Argumedo as a presidential candidate. Thus, the sociologist will be running against the Progressive Front’s candidate Hermes Binner.

Earlier, Solanas had warned that if they both kept their distance from each other, his party would end up with no candidate, a situation he would not accept.

“No one would ever agree to become part of a political front just to be invisible. We will not stand by antidemocratic procedures. We don’t need to ask permission for anything,” he had said earlier.
