'I want to build a bridge between the older and newer generations'
As President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner confirmed that she would seek reelection in October, she stated that "she hopes to build a bridge between the older and newer generations,” while adressing the nation on live television.
“My commitment is inalienable and irrevocable,” Fernández de Kirchner said, and clarified that she didn't announce her decision sooner because of" institutional and political reasons," although "she always knew" what she had to do.
Fernández de Kirchner's announcement was reported in several international media outlets, which hilighted the fact that the timing of her decision "surprised people".
The President has yet to announce her running mate, a decision which remains a mystery, although several candidates, including Economy Minister Amado Boudoy, Social Development Minister Alicia Kirchner and Chaco Governor Jorge Capitanich are considered as the top contenders.
