Airlines cancel all flights scheduled for Monday night
A few minutes before 9 pm, when the Ezeiza and Aeroparque airports were expected to resume their services, Aerolineas Argentinas, Austral and LAN airlines once again decided to continue to ground all outbound flights and divert all planes directed to Buenos Aires due to the volcanic ash cloud hovering above the city.
According to airport officials, their decision to cancel all flights was due to an unexpected change in the wind's direction that once again brought the ashes spewed by the Puyehue volcano towards the capital.
Aerolineas Argentinas informed that two flights bound for Mexico City and Rome that were scheduled to leave on Monday, will actually do it on Tuesday morning, at 11 am and 11:15 am respectively.
LAN explained that it had decided to ground all flights due to official reports “warning about the presence of volcanic ash in the Buenos Aires air space.”
The company assured that “after analyzing the official information provided, it decided to ground all its flights scheduled to leave from the Ezeiza and Aeroparque airports until weather conditions improve and reach the company’s minimum safety standards.
LAN cancelled 15 domestic and regional flights that were supposed to take off from Aeroparque and 10 that were expected to leave from Ezeiza.
