Neuquén votes for governor

The province of Neuquén, one of the worstly affected southern provinces week due to the ash fall caused by the Chilean Puyehue volcano ash cloud, will go to the polls to vote for their new governor.

In total, 411,925 people are able to vote, representing almost 1.4 percent of the overall electing percentage in Argentina.

According to recent polls, the elections will be divided between the current governor, Jorge Sapag, who seeks reelection, as a candidate of the Neuquino Popular Movement (MPN), and the province capital’s mayor, Martín Farizano, a candidate for the Neuquino Front, an alliance between the Radical Party (UCR) and Justicialist Party (PJ).

The closing of the campaign was marked this year, due to the ash fall caused by the recent Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcano eruptions, a phenomenon that strongly affected a number of towns in the south of the province, particularly tourist towns, Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes.

Sapag closed his campaign making donations to those who were affected by the ash fall.
