Tension mounts in Santa Cruz as a group of students entered to the headquarters of the teachers’ union in the province (ADOSAC) and blocked the exit to the union leaders to claim for the conflict to end and resume the classes, according to the OPI Santa Cruz site.

The Patagonic media stated that a group of students entered along with their parents to the teachers’ headquarters, blocked the entrance and locked the door. Inside the building remained the General Secretary Pedro Muñoz and part of the board of directors that were in the building when the students entered.

The social tension generated by the provincial teachers’ strike that started almost 50 days ago, led Santa Cruz’s Bishop, Juan Carlos Romanín, and the judicial authorities to exhort the teachers to lift the protest, which includes the blockade of five oil refineries.

The conflict reached a severe level because due to the roadblock to the refineries, the oil production has been almost paralyzed.
