Unionists lifted a blockade on the intersection of Sarmiento and Figueroa Alcorta avenues, after Héctor López, a representative from the Trucker’s Union, approached the area in order to listen to their demands. The protesters demanded the presence of the union’s leader Hugo Moyano, who they blame along with the union’s health care system for the death of Gustavo González.

Upon his arrival, López was faced with González’s family. “We gave our lives for Moyano and his union, but then they butchered my brother,” Estela González said.

“Look at him now. He voted for Moyano and defended him his entire life, but he had to wait over 16 hours until the Truckers’ health insurance company sent him an ambulance. We want Moyano to come here and explain to us why this happened,” she said in tears.

After López introduced himself to the family, both sides walked away from the cameras in order to privately come to an agreement and end the conflict that is currently creating long traffic lines and chaos in the area.

Refuse collection services have also been suspended since last night due to the protest.

The unionists interrupting traffic have warned that their protest is scheduled to continue for an undetermined amount of time.

However, they cleared one lane in each avenue as a sign of good will.

After suffering a stroke last week, 33-year old Gustavo González had to wait 16 hours until the ambulance arrived at his house.

González eventually died in the hospital.
