Socialists 'have no doubt' Binner will be running for president, party sec-gen says
The Socialist Party Secretary General, Carlos Roberto, assured that his party “has no doubt” that, after creating a “center-left” front, Santa Fe Governor Hermes Binner will be running for president in October.
“Binner has been active in our organization for many years and has always supported the party’s collective decisions. So we have no doubt that he will be running for president because that is what all party members in the country want,” he stated.
The leader explained that the governor “has the support of other political forces and of many people who remain hopeful because they consider him a leader that governs differently from the rest.”
“There’s not doubt. We believe that those center-left voters who don’t support the ruling party will surely support Binner.
Roberto insisted, however, that the candidate will be officially picked next Saturday, when the Socialist Party National Conference takes place in the Bauen Hotel, in downtown Buenos Aires.
On that day, the alliance with Margarita Stolbizer’s GEN Party will also be officially ratified.
Roberto explained that Binner’s decision to accept the nomination comes largely in part from his former partner Ricardo Alfonsin’s decision to close an Alliance with centre-right Francisco De Narváez in the Buenos Aires province, a decision that ended their plans to create a progressive front between the UCR and the Socialists.
