CFK arrives in Rome for official two-day visit
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner arrived to Rome today at 5.20PM local time (12.20PM Argentina), to head an official two-day visit in which commercial agreements will be closed. The President will meet with Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, and is also to attend the official celebrations for the Italian Unification’s 150th anniversary.
Fernández de Kirchner arrived in Italy today, following her official visit to Mexico. The President was accompanied by Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman and Planning Minister Julio De Vido, and on her arrival to Ciampino de Roma airport, where she was escorted directly her accommodation.
The festivities in aid of the Italian Unification begin on Thursday, where eighty heads of State from all over the world are to participate. As a consequence, security measures in the Italian capital have heightened in the build up to the event.
Official activities will commence tomorrow at 11AM (6AM in Argentina), when the President will visit The Quirinale Palace, to the Italian Presidential sector, where she will meet with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano. At 11.30AM, both presidents will give a press conference from the Mirror Salon inside the Palace.
Following the meeting with President Napolitano, Fernández de Kirchner is to be received by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at 1PM, where a lunch will be held in her honour.
Activities are planned to continue throughout the day, including speeches being made by Napolitano and United Nations General Secretary, Ban Ki-Moon.
Following her official visit Fernández de Kirchner will travel on Friday to Venice, where she is to inaugurate the Argentine Art exhibition “Memory and Liberty in Argentine Art throughout the 20th Century,” in the Ca Giustinian Gallery.
Fernández de Kirchner will return to Buenos Aires on Friday; however a time has not yet been confirmed.
