'We will continue to invest in the automotive industry,' CFK assures
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner praised the local automotive industry, assuring that “with a 23 percent annual growth, it is now one of the largest growing industries in the country.” She then added that the Government “will continue to invest in the sector.”
“The Government will invest $9 million pesos on improving the approach roads leading to the brand new plant owned by the Honda Japanese Corporation in Campana.
Her statements resonated in the media due to the ongoing bilateral trade conflict between Argentina and Brazil that has thousands of Argentine-made vehicles stuck at the border.
The President also spoke of her late husband, former President Néstor Kirchner, as she pointed out that as soon as she was elected, they attended the plant’s groundbreaking ceremony. “He used to say he hoped for thousands of flowers to bloom, although in this case it was not flowers that bloomed, but factories, which is the equivalent to a million flowers.”
She closed her speech by recalling that the last time that an automotive plant was open in Argentina was in 1997.
