UCR, Binner alliance 'pretty much dead,' Morales says
Radical Senator Gerardo Morales said he considered a possible alliance with Socialist Santa Fe Governor Hermes Binner to be “pretty much dead,” and called off all formal negotiations started with the Socialist Party, with which they hoped to create a nationwide progressive front.
The Radicals consider Binner’s rejection to a possible agreement between the UCR and dissident Peronist Francisco De Narváez and his announcement that he was considering running for president to be decisive. “We believe Binner has already made a choice,” Morales said.
As the Socialists still debate whether to go with the UCR or join Proyecto Sur and the GEN, official sources confirmed that it was Binner’s “doublespeak what crossed the line.”
“We didn’t like that in private conversations behind closed doors he said he was going to analyze a possible agreement with De Narváez, only to aggressively reject it publicly,” UCR officials said.
