'The Museum of the Bicentennial belongs to everyone', CFK says
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner inaugurated the Museum of the Bicentennial, one day before the 201st anniversary of the May Revolution. "This belongs to everyone," she stated.
"History must to be told in its entirety, with it its dark sides and its light sides," the President said during her speech, which was broadcast live on TV. "This museum rescues our heritage,” the president stated.
“I hope that the celebration of another anniversary of the May Revolution unites all Argentines,” she said.
Officials in the Judicial and Legislative branches were present in the opening of the new 5,000 sq. metres Cultural Center.
The museum is located in the historic corridors of the former Taylor Customs Agency, which was functional back in 1855, and over the remains of the Buenos Aires Fort, built in 1580.
The President was joined by cabinet members and over one thousand guests.
Restoration works on the property began by orders of the President two years ago.
The May Revolution was a series of events that culminated in May 25th, 1810, when the Spanish Viceroy was ousted and a local government was established.
