As good will gesture, Brazil releases 1,000 cars held at the border
In what may be seen as a good will gesture from Brazil to Argentina during the current trade conflict, Rousseff’s government decided to authorize 1,000 Argentine-made cars into the country that had been held at the border.
The vehicles had been held due to Brazil’s sudden decision to rescind their automatic licences. 3,000 vehicles in total had been stopped at the Argentina-Brazil border.
After learning of the Brazilian gesture, the National Government announced they would let a batch of Brazilian batteries, shoes and tires into the country.
The move took place after a full day in which the bilateral relations were intensified in order to reach an agreement. In the afternoon, Industry Secretary Eduardo Bianchi and his Brazilian counterpart Alessandro Teixeira, discussed the blockage applied to Argentine-made cars as a preamble to the meeting they are scheduled to have next week in Buenos Aires.
The encounter was scheduled during the meeting that Industry Minister Debora Giorgi held with Brazilian Ambassador to Argentina, Enio Cordeiro.
Yesterday, the Brazilian Govenrment seemed to take the first step towards solving the conflict, when a Customs communiqué was sent, stating which licences where in the validation process.
