Vélez crush Libertad in quarter-finals' first leg

The only Argentine team that remains at the Libertadores Cup, Vélez Sársfield, thrashed Paraguay’s Libertad 3-0 for the first leg of the tournament’s quarter-finals.

Vélez's Maximiliano Moralez opened the score at 21' of the first half of the game.

At 33' of the second half, Juan Manuel Martínez netted a penalty kick and two minutes later he scored Vélez's third goal.

The match was held at Boca Juniors due to the suspension of the José Amalfitani stadium after the raids over the use of fireworks during Monday’s game.

Independiente, Argentinos Juniors and Mendoza’s Godoy Cruz were eliminated in the groups round, and Estudiantes de La Plata during the pre-quarter finals, but Vélez defeated Ecuador’s Liga de Quito by 3-0 in the first leg and 2-0 in the second leg.
