Del Potro pulls out of Madrid Masters
Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro gestures in pain during his match of the Madrid Masters against Russian Mikhail Youzhny.
Juan Martín del Potro announced he pulled out of the Madrid Masters 1,000 due to a problem in his hip. Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who was going to face him for the pre-quarter finals, directly advanced to the quarter-finals.
Del Potro injured his hip last week during the Estoril Open in the semi-final against Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas.
When he arrived in Madrid after winning the Portuguese Cup, the Argentine tennis player visited a medical centre where he underwent several tests and decided to play, but taking into account the intensity of a game against Nadal, he decided to pull out of the Masters.
