Del Potro advances to semi-finals, face Cuevas

Argentine tennis player Juan Martín Del Potro will face Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas for the semi-final of the Estoril Open, after thrashing their opponents in the quarter-finals.

Del Potro defeated Swedish Robin Soderling, one of the favourites to win the tournament, by 6-4 and 7-5.

The champion of US Open 2009 and ex fourth seeded, currently is on the 46° place of the ATP ranking, but his performance in Estoril may help him to climb a few steps.

Cuevas managed to beat Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci by 6-4 and 6-2 in the quarter-final match.

On the other side of the board, Spaniard Fernando Verdasco (N.2), who faces South Africa’s Kevin Anderson (N.7) for the quarter-finals, is now the favourite player. Also fighting for a place in the semi-finals is French Gilles Simon (N.4) who faces Canadian Milos Raonic (N.5).
