Magnitude 5.7 quake strikes Mexico west coast

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico's western coast, 16 miles (26 km) northwest of San Marcos in Guerrero, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was felt in the resort city of Acapulco about 40 miles (64 km) west of San Marcos, but no significant damage was reported.

"It was strong and we have just had an emergency. It was a gas leak at a home, but nothing further," a dispatcher at an Acapulco fire station said.

"We don't have any damage reports so far," said Ricardo Resendiz, a dispatcher with civil protection in Acapulco.

The quake, which struck at 11:07 GMT, was 12.8 miles (20 km) deep, the USGS said.
