'CFK would win the election today,' Cobos says
Almost a month ago, Vice-President Julio Cobos was planning to run for October’s presidential election but decided to withdraw and leave Ricardo Alfonsín and Ernesto Sanz in the race. Nevertheless, the Vice-President admitted that, if the election were held today, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner would win it, although he added that the scenario might change, because it is a “cyclothymic country and politics are very dinamic.”
“Cristina would win the election today, but we have to see what happens during the next months,” Cobos affirmed during an interview published by San Luis province’s La República newspaper.
The official also questioned the decision of the Radical Party (UCR) of the proclamation of Ricardo Alfonsín as the presidential candidate, but assured he “respects” the measure.
Referring to the UCR, Cobos said that “it has certain allies, but it will depend on what happens with Hermes Binner on May 22” in Santa Fe province’s election, because “if the Governor wins and Pino Solanas runs for Buenos Aires city mayor, then Binner can turn into the candidate for Proyecto Sur bloc” and Margarita Stolbizer, the Socialist Party and Proyecto Sur could “form an alliance.”
“But if Binner does not win, the other possibility gets complicated, which is an alliance with the Radical Party,” he continued.
