Sanz urges opposition to join forces against Kirchnerites
Less than 24 hours before a meeting between Ricardo Alfonsín and Julio Cobos in which the presidential pre-candidate will ask for the Vice-president’s support, Ernesto Sanz urged the opposition to leave petty aspirations aside and work together”, to defeat the Victory Front in the October elections.
“We need to build an alternative that can win the elections in the first place, and sustain a government later. We have to discuss every issue with every party and join forces. We mustn’t exclude, nor put limits to anyone. We mustn’t have self claimed leading roles except those attributed by citizens at the polls. Each party must keep its own identity and proposals, as well as previous alliances, formulas and agreements,” Sanz stated.
The Mendoza-born politician is one of the Radical party leaders that seek for an ample alliance strategy for the party’s official presidential candidate, Ricardo Alfonsín, who said that his limit for an alliance is Mauricio Macri.
After urging the opposition to join forces against Kirchernism, Sanz took time to criticize the regulation of the electoral reform law, which he called “deceitful," because all the benefits go to the Victory Front and all the restrictions to the opposition parties. A Kircherite triumph in the elections will create more signs of authoritarianism, more institutional deterioration, more arbitrariness.”
Sanz’s views come less than 24 hours away from a meeting betweem Vice-president Julio Cobos and Ricardo Alfonsín in the Radical’s party National Committee. Alfonsín’s supporters look to mend fences with Cobos and for him to have a stronger presence in the campaign.
Radical party Upper House head Gerardo Morales and Lower House head Ricardo Gil Lavedra will take part in the meeting as well.
