Independiente beat Peñarol, but was not enough
Independiente defeated Uruguay's Peñarol 1-0 at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo, but it was not able to reach the pre-quarter finals of the Libertadores de América Cup.
Independiente's Facundo Parra opened the score at 33' of the first half of the game.
The Argentine team had to crush the leader of the Group by eight goals in the game to be held in Montevideo.
The match between the Argentines and Uruguayans was held at the Centenario de Montevideo stadium.
Liga Deportiva Universitaria was left first in the Group 8 with ten points, followed by Peñarol with nine, Independiente with eight points and Godoy Cruz with seven.
