Court rejects Jaime's plea to be allowed to move to Brazil temporarily
A Federal Court rejected a request lodged by former Transportation Secretary Ricardo Jaime in which he asked to be temporarily allowed to fly to Brazil to work. Jaime is still under investigation since he is suspected of embezzlement during his time in office.
The decision was made by Federal Judge Norberto Oyarbide, who is currently leading the investigation. Jaime is suspected of owning several properties, a plane and a yacht.
Jaime requested to be allowed to “temporarily” move to Brazil in order to work as an “external consultant” in a company located in Sao Paulo for 45 days.
Oyarbide denied the request based on the amount of time that Jaime intended to remain abroad. The judge also considered that last February, attorney Carlos Rívolo also rejected the request and demanded him to explain how the managed to amass such a massive fortune.
In order to sign a contract with the Brazilian company, Jaime apparently left the country without permission, and this incident also weighted heavily on Oyarbide when he reached his decision.
However, Jaime’s defense appealed such a claim and said that the former official never left the country since the contract was signed in Argentina and then sent over to Brazil.
