Teatro Colón musicians lift strike until Tuesday

The Colón Theatre’s musicians announced they will lift the strike until next Tuesday in order to wait for a negotiation with Buenos Aires City government, after fourty-one members of the Resident Orchestra received letters of dismissal.

Colón workers reported earlier that 41 musicians had received dismissal letters. The director of the theatre, Pedro Pablo García Caffi, told the press that “some contracts of people who do not belong to the Resident Orchestra were not renewed.”

The decision was made by the authorities due to the conflict which had led, among other things, to the cancellation of Plácido Domingo’s concert at the theatre.

After an assembly, Colón musicians decided to lift the strike and wait until next Tuesday in order to resume negotiations with the authorities.
