Domestic flights increased 53% within last 16 months; Gov't authorizes new hike

Domestic flights will suffer an 8 percent increase, starting tomorrow, as the government authorized a new ticket prices hike being it the third increase in less than a year.

The measure was published in today’s Official Gazette through resolution 64/2011, which was adopted by the Transport Secretariat, which is led by Engineer Juan Pablo Schiavi.

This is the first increase of domestic flight tickets in 2011 but the third within the past eight months. In July of last year the government authorized a 15 percent increase, while another 10 percent hike was applied in October.

In addition, a 20 percent increase was implemented in November 2009 and flight tickets experienced a 53 percent increased within the last 16 months, a figure that doubles the inflation rate given by private consultants and is almost five times higher than that of the inflation rate informed by the INDEC national statistics bureau.

The new hike (8%) will affect a total of 39 local destinations, and for example a one-way ticket to Patagonian city of San Carlos de Bariloche will move to a floor-price of $511 pesos and a maximum of $971 pesos.
