CFK meets with Chávez, underlines role of UNASUR
During a joint press conference held earlier, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chávez discussed the importance of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).
The two Presidents met at the Government House to sign agreements over economic integration and complementation, whilst discussing bilateral ties.They were joined by government ministers, this being the third summit of the Bi-National Commission between both countries.
Chávez responded in reference to Argentina's role by saying, “from Néstor to Cristina, the Argentine Government has played a key part in creating an important block in the region of South America.” He also considered the Union “vital” for the region.
Cristina mentioned that she feels “proud to be part of the UNASUR” group. They both then reaffirmed together, how important the UNASUR is to be able to "resolve conflicts" in the region "in peace and without violence."
Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez arrived to Buenos Aires city airport early this morning at 12:40am. Upon his arrival, Hugo Chávez called the signing of bilateral agreements “a coming together of projects to continue the integration and links between Caracas and Buenos Aires.”
