Batista: 'Argentina is desperate to win something'
Argentina’s national football team coach Sergio Batista affirmed that the team is “desperate to win something” because it has been 18 years “without getting anything.”
From New Jersey, where the friendly game against the United States will be held on Saturday, the coach analyzed that “the Argentine football is not doing well,” and said the main cause of the crisis is “the fear to lose.”
Batista accepted that “many are waiting for me to make a mistake” with the team and admitted his personal need of winning “a cup” to convince those who question him based in results.
The coach highlighted the importance of the América Cup 2011 which will be held in Argentina and assured “it part of the process which counts with the project of winning the World Cup in Brazil.”
Batista, who coached the team that won the Olympics in Beijing 2008, affirmed “I like the football as I played it. Fast but not in a hurry, which was the essence of the Argentine football that gave as many positive results.”
He assured forward Lionel Messi is “committed with the national team” when he was asked about Spain’s criticisms over the player.
