CFK meets with Eliceche; gov't urges to pursue all legal instances
Amidst the controversy over the recent elections in the Chubut province, the National Government distanced itself from the accusations of fraud made by the Victory Front candidate Carlos Eliceche. President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, however, met with him in the Government House, in a meeting that was labeled as “merely protocol” by Executive officials.
Eliceche, who flew to Buenos Aires in order to file a complaint in court over accusations of fraud, was greeted by the President, who joined him in a meeting that government officials said it was “merely protocol.”
The President also met with Catamarca governor-elect Lucia Corpacci.
After the meeting, the Puerto Madryn mayor assured that the President urged him to “pursue all legal instances” in order to get to the “real results” and confirmed at the same time that his and attorneys would request a “vote by vote recount.”
Earlier, Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo had distanced himself from Eliceche’s accusations against Chubut Governor Mario Das Neves.
“We are not talking about fraud. We have just said that the most important rule for democracy is transparency in information, and the election in Chubut lacked transparency. They even tampered with the information there,” he said.
Randazzo said that doubts over the election results began when the Chubut government failed to upload them on the internet, where they would have been available to all citizens.
“It’s been 48 hours since the elections and we still don’t know who won,” he stated.
