2012 Dakar Rally to start in Mar del Plata, CFK confirms

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said that the 2012 Dakar Rally will start in the seaside resort of Mar del Plata, in Buenos Aires province.

She announced it after she held a meeting with Tourism Minister Enrique Meyer. Earlier, Fernández de Kirchner took part in the official closure of the Carnival festivities at the Government House and reported that the four day long weekend broke records in domestic tourism, with 2.5 million people traveling along Argentina.

The Carnival holiday was reinstated in the calendar holiday after 35 years.
