City Hall, National Gov't continue Avellaneda Park dispute
Members of both City and National governments made statements against one another today over the decisions being made to do with the occupation of houses built by City Hall in the southern neighbourhood of Parque Avellaneda.
Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández stated “the City has occupied themselves the task of managing the evacuation of the houses, which should be done with the Metropolitan Police.”
Fernández also said that, “there has got to be an alternative way to deal with the people, without hurting anyone and to come to an agreement with the squatters; letting them know that they cannot just take things for themselves.”
He concluded that, “we would like to solve this issue and find a solution as soon as possible,” with reference to the continued squatters”.
Beforehand, City Cabinet Chief Horacio Rodríguez Larreta mentioned that the national authorities “cannot act idiotically anymore” after Judge Luis Armella’s order was passed for the occupied areas to be evacuated.
