Brazil to continue nuclear energy investments despite Japan crisis
Brazil will continue to invest in nuclear energy despite the explosions at a central Japanese nuclear plant, caused by last week’s earthquake and tsunami.
“We have no need to revise anything, except for learning from what happened in Japan, and taking a look at future proceedings,” said Brazil’s Mining and Energy Minister Edison Lobao.
Brazil’s government plans on constructing the Angra 3 nuclear plant, next to two other ones in Angra dos Reis, in Río de Janeiro, and four others in different regions.
“There shouldn’t be any worry because our plants are less vulnerable than Japan’s,” said Lobao. “There is no doubt as to the excellence of our nuclear plants.”
