Boy takes a break in the city heat.
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) extended the orange alert for the city of Buenos Aires and its surrounding areas, due to the continuing high temperatures. Saturday's forecast is predicted to be a rainy one, with expected storms and highs of 31 degrees.
Officials at SMN issued the alert because “heat waves can be dangerous, especially for babies and young children, citizens over 65 and people with chronic diseases."
On Thursday, the temperature reached 31°C and the heat index soared to 34°C while porteños suffered heat that is inusual for late summer.
The rain forecasted for Saturday should start to bring the temperatures down, however the humidity index will still be very high.
