Magnitude 6.6 quake hits Papua New Guinea town
A strong quake of magnitude 6.6 struck the island of New Britain in Papua New Guinea, the US Geological Survey reported.
The epicenter of the quake, which was fairly shallow at a depth of 26.8 miles (43.2 km), was only 17 miles (27 km) north-northeast of the town of Kandrian. It struck at 7:24 am on Thursday (2124 GMT on Wednesday), the USGS said.
