National, City Gov’t clash over Illia Highway delays
Transport Secretary Juan Pablo Schiavi and Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri clashed over the delays in the completion of works on the Illia Highway. During a press conference, Schiavi assured that the government "has never engaged in dialogue with the City over the highway" and urged the Macri administration "to stop fooling around.”
Schiavi added that “the current plan is unfeasible” and that the national government does not reject the dialogue with the City, as the mayor had stated.
He also assured that they have even had several encounters between both government in order to debate the works at the Illia Highway.
Earlier, City Mayor Mauricio Macri blamed Fernández de Kirchner’s administration for the delays and urged the President to “stop affecting the lives of the people who need to use it.”
“We are not getting any answers. We have turned in all the blueprints, the works have been approved and we still can’t move forward with it. It is regrettable when politics affect people’s lives negatively,” he said.
The mayor then said he wanted the President to know that “between people and politics, we choose the people.”
