Mass tourist movement begins toward Carnival weekend

Gualeguaychú Carnival, referred to as the ''national carnival'' in Gualeguaychú, January 30, 2011.

People are to flock in their thousands towards the main tourist spots around the country to enjoy the spirit of the Carnival long weekend for the first time in 35 years. The morning bustle has already begun at Retiro bus station as hundreds began the morning boarding early services out of Buenos Aires.

The carnivals celebrations “will be a great incentive to boost tourism in the interior provinces” said Patricia Vismara, the sub secretary of National Tourism Promotion, and highlighted the Entre Ríos and Corrientes carnivals as having a similar celebration to Brazil, and the northern provinces for celebrating indigenous culture.

Hotel reservations are the main indicator in adding up the tourist takings for the main destinations, and most are 60% booked, with the exception of the Atlantic coast in Buenos Aires province, Córdoba, Corrientes, Entre Ríos and the north, where bookings exceed 80%, according to tourist operators.

According to data acquired by town councils, the coastal destinations are to receive the highest value of reservations, with bookings largely in 4-5 star hotels, cabins, hotels and luxury apartments.
