EU evacuates thousands from Libya

European Union states are evacuating some 10,000 EU citizens from Libya, a spokesman for the EU executive said.
"There are around 10,000 EU citizens in Libya. The operation of evacuation has started with EU member states," the spokesman said during a regular news briefing of the European Commission.
EU governments will also discuss the possibility of sanctions against Libya later today, the spokesman said.
