18 participants remain in La Paz movie marathon after 72-hours

Only eighteen contestants remain out of more than 1,200 cinema fans who chose to take part in a non-stop movie marathon which began in La Paz on Saturday. The competition started 72-hours ago challenging the contender to watch as many movies as they can out of 39, without sleeping.

MegaCenter cinema manager Ariel Rodríguez mentioned that, “the majority of remaining contestants are aged between 18 and 25 years old”, and he also added that, “if they continue to do well, we shall raise the stakes and possibly extend the length of the competition after the thirty-ninth film”.

The winner is to take with them a brand-new motorcycle and one year free cinema entry. The competition will be repeated in March in the Santa Cruz branch of the cinema and in May in Cochabamba.

According to other news sources, the current record to beat is Canadian Suresh Joachim and German Claudia Wasra who have the Guinness record for watching 57 films in 123 hours and ten minutes in New York, 2008.
