BA police heads reshuffle due to 'operational changes, not massive purge,' Scioli
Buenos Aires province governor Daniel Scioli said that several Buenos Aires police chiefs would be asked for their resignation, but assured that this reshuffle is not part of a “massive purge” but rather mere “operational changes.”
“This has nothing to do with a massive purge. These are operational changes based on our objectives,” Mr. Scioli explained.
The governor said that the changes to the top brass in the provincial police force “usually happen at the end of every year, only this time it took us a little longer due to the ongoing “Operation Sol.”
“People always retire at the end of every year and we’re always making changes. This year ‘Operation Sol’ was a priority and because of that we helped 5 million tourists travel around the province without a single problem,” he stated.
“Now is the right time to make changes in the police,” he said.
Even though the governor didn’t comment on the identities of those who would be asked for their resignation soon, it is believed that the head of the provincial police, Juan Carlos Paggi will remain in his post.
