Foreign tourism climbs 27% in 2010

The number of tourists that arrived in Argentina during 2010 increased 27.1 percent and totalled 2.6 million tourists compared to the volume reported the previous year, according to the Indec national statistics bureau.

Meanwhile, the government announced that 243.012 foreign tourists entered the country in December via Ezeiza airport, which is the main access route into Argentina, reaching to a 16.4 percent increase.

The report states that the total expense of the tourists during this month was 13.5 percent higher than the one reported the same month last year, it reached 371.6 million dollars.

In 2010, 1.9 million Argentine citizens travelled outside the country, 15.2 percent higher that the figures reported in 2009.

During December, 134.965 Argentine citizens travelled outside the country, reaching a 12.1 percent increase. Meanwhile, the total expense of Argentine citizens during their trips outside the country reached 203.8 million dollars.
