Garré confirms arrest of BAPRO robbers
Security Minister Nilda Garré confirmed that six people have been arrested in connection to the New Year’s Eve robbery on the Belgrano branch of the Banco Provincia. During the police raids, officials seized objects which were allegedly stolen during the robbery, including the safety deposit boxes themselves.
The robbery took place on January 2nd, when a gang of robbers dug a 30 meter-long tunnel and broke into the bank, stealing millions of pesos from 143 safety deposit boxes.
The amount stolen was divided between jewellery, and cash. The group is said to be largely made up of family members, some of which with criminal backgrounds.
The robbery took place between 31 December and 2 Jan, coming into the New Year, through way of an underground tunnel. The news reached international headlines, and investigators have been tracking the perpetrators since the occurrence.
The group of criminals have also been linked with twenty separate raids in Buenos Aires and province, according to police officials.
