AFIP revenue office uncovers new cases of illegal 'slave like labour'
The AFIP revenue office has uncovered new cases of illegal “slave like labour", with employees working under conditions described to be “inhumane”, in the province of Buenos Aires and Misiones, which have been reported to Judiciary.
In the Buenos Aires province district of 25 de Mayo, officials found an agricultural establishment pertaining to Gobernador Ugarte area, where sixty-one people “were collecting potatoes in terribly poor and indecent conditions”.
The conditions consisted of “unhygienic bathrooms, with workers sleeping in small box-like beds or in the rear parts of vehicles. Each person had to pay for their food and none of the general labour condition laws were respected”, confirmed an AFIP official.
It was also discovered that fifty-five employees were not registered and two of them were completely without documents.
Furthermore, in Misiones, various plots were found by tax office officials: in the area of Yacutinga, close to Posadas, pertaining to General Manuel Belgrano; also in the region of Cabureí, part of the Comandante Andresito area; plus a rural piece of land close to Puerto Esperanza. There thirty-one adults and four children carried out their jobs “in unthinkable conditions”.
