Education Ministry, teacher's unions end second round of wage talks
Education Ministry officials and representatives from the five teacher’s unions met for the second time this afternoon in order to discuss wage talks and the new nationwide salary floor.
“Besides a new salary increase, we discussed other issues related to education,” Education Minister Alberto Sileoni said. The minister said he is certain “an agreement will be reached soon, just like we’ve done it in the last few years.”
The meeting began a few minutes after 2 pm in the Sarmiento Palace, where the ministry offices are located, and ended at 5:45 pm.
In their last meeting last Friday, unions demanded a $2,500 pesos salary floor, a sum government officials deemed too high, although they assured they would offer teachers a salary hike to be paid out in several installments.
