Wage increase percentage 'cannot yet be established,' Tomada

Minister of Labour, Carlos Tomada

Minister of Labour Carlos Tomada stated that a wage increase percentage “cannot yet be established” for this year, and promised that negotiations between companies and their workers would be “rational.”

Tomada assured that the wage talks “have just started” in different work sectors and is “in contact with businessmen and union leaders to ensure balance” during the wage negotiations. He went on to say that “I think negotiations will be made calmly as we have seen in recent years.”

He furthered that the best wage hikes will run by “how each work sector is doing,” as the wage talks go on. Going on from this, he mentioned that “when we say that there is no minimum or maximum it is because today a number cannot yet be established, unless an average can be reached, as a reference.”
