Gov't, teacher unions fail agreement on wages

Education Minister Alberto Sileoni holds meeting with teacher unions

The Education Ministry held a meeting with five teacher’s unions representatives, but failed to reach an agreement on a pay deal for this year. The unions demanded a pay floor increase of 2,500 pesos.

The meeting was held at the Palacio Sarmiento, in the education sector. The unions called in by Education Minister Alberto Sileoni, were the CTERA, UDA, CEA, SADOP, and AMET national teacher’s unions.

After the encounter, the minister told the press that "it is usual to fail an agreement on the first meeting" and added that they will meet again "next week."

Earlier, Sileoni stated that “we are to begin the discussion, with the hope of having the pay deal closed by the first days of February, which is important for spreading out the bargaining collective meetings.”
