López family lawyer to ask witness for 'more specific information' regarding body

After what was almost an entire day of intense search by the authorities for the body of Julio López, Guadalupe Godoy, the López family lawyer, said she would ask the unidentified witness who came forward with the information about the man’s disappearance to provide the police with more specific information regarding the whereabouts of the construction worker’s body.

Tomorrow morning, and on behalf of the López family, Mrs. Godoy will ask the witness, currently in protective custody, to provide the police with more details in order to identify where the body was buried.

“We need the witness to give a statement and be more specific with the details,” she said.

For now, the search is based on a document redacted within the Buenos Aires province Ministry of Security and does not provide the exact location of Mr. López’s body.

“I hope investigations are conducted in a serious manner, so citizens entering the Pereyra Iraola Park train station are not affected by the investigations,” she said.

López (who would be 80 today), a construction worker and political prisoner during last military regime (1976-1983), went missing on September, 18, 2006 when he left his home in Los Hornos (La Plata) to go to the courthouse to hear the final statements in the trial against former police officer Miguel Etchecolatz, who was sentenced to prison for life after being found guilty of genocide.

The builder had previously testified in the trial. Actually, Lopez´s testimony was crucial as he could identify Etchecolatz as the man who tortured him when jailed.
