Duhalde ratifies candidacy despite low poll numbers
Former President Eduardo Duhalde referred to his apparently low popularity among voters, warning that the presidential race “is just getting started.”
“There’s no reason why I should be great in the polls. The race is just getting started. In the past, every candidate who won an election was always doing poorly in the polls a year before that,” the Federal Peronist pre-candidate said.
Mr. Duhalde is currently ranked below several other presidential hopefuls who expect to defeat the ruling party in a second round of voting.
The former president also referred to the possibility of facing City Mayor Mauricio Macri in the August presidential primaries, once the Federal Peronist party decides who their candidate is going to be.
Mr. Duhalde said he could consider forming “an alliance or front” between the PRO’s candidate and whoever wins the primaries in the Federal Peronist party.
