Supermarket attack in Quilmes, guard shot dead

Police officials announced that a supermarket guard was killed by young delinquents in the Quilmes neighbourhood. The youths entered the Chinese-run supermarket and shot down the man guarding the store yesterday evening.

The guard, Juan Carlos Álvarez, aged 57, died from his wounds after having been operated on at Iriarte hospital in Quilmes in the early hours of the morning.

The incident occurred yesterday, at 7.30PM, along Sarmiento 226, as the youths tried to rob the store Álvarez was in charge of guarding. Álvarez was patrolling the supermarket when the youngsters approached, at least one of them armed. The guard confronted the youths and when he didn’t allow them to enter; they began to struggle, and he was shot in the neck and leg.

The youths escaped after the attack and were almost caught by police in the area of la Villa El Monte, who were patrolling the area, however they defended themselves with gunshots and escaped. Police have still to find the criminals.
