Fernández responds to accusations of involvement in drug-trafficking

Cabinet Chief, Aníbal Fernández

Cabinet Chief, Aníbal Fernández stated today that “to say that a person is politically responsible for drug-trafficking is an act of cowardice”. The statement was made in response to strong accusations of his involvement in drug handling, made by head of Civic Coalition, Elisa Carrió.

Claims came after the recent case of Argentines shipping 900 kilos of cocaine into Spain, and accusations of the Governments' involvement in the case.

Fernández responded by way of social network, Twitter. He furthered in his comments that, “to make such an accusation that someone could be involved in such a cause, is an act of cowardice because it is not possible to place a political responsibility in a criminal case”.

He went on to say that, “expression only serves the purpose of excusing criminal responsibility. The Penal Code states that the creator, participant, or accessories to the crime to be involved, not place political responsibility on individuals”.

Fernández is now going to press charges against Carrió, with an intention to take the case to court over the comments made.
