President announces foreign tourism boom
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced that Argentina registered “a 72 percent increase of foreign tourism compared to 2003,” and added that “the foreign exchange soared 97 percent.”
“The exact figure in dollars in 2003 was 1.9 million and during the third trimester of 2010 it reached to 4.45 million dollars,” the Head of State assured at the presentation of the “Argentina con Vos Siempre” programme at the Government House.
The number of foreign tourists in the country rose 72.6 percent between 2003 and 2010, while Argentine tourism in the country increased 40 percent, according to the Tourism Ministry report.
“The improvement in the tourism sector is showed in the amount of money this activity is generating. During the first three trimesters of 2010, it totalled 3.3 million dollars, which is 6.5 percent of the Argentine exports,” the ministry’s report stated.
